About the Artist

Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1953, Cathleen moved in 1961 to Chippewa Falls, where she presently resides. She has been painting professionally for the past 25 years, after studying art at the University of Wisconsin, and privately for many years with Hugh Mandelert. She is a member of the Heyde Center for the Arts and the Hugh Mandelert Art Society, and her works are included in private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. For most of her career she has specialized in portraits in oil and pastel, but in recent years has been more drawn to portray the unique beauty and serenity of northern Wisconsin, projecting in oil the mood experienced in seeing the mirror reflections of a calm lake, the golden flood of sunlight over the rolling fields, the serenity of an ancient barn deep in snow or the blazing scarlets and oranges of the autumn woods. Her fascination with color and mood expresses the unity with nature shared by all who truly feel most at home in the outdoors, and her belief that the scene to be portrayed must reach the heart of the viewer,and that the color and mood of a beautiful place are first experienced by the soul.

About the Artwork

Mark Coyle enjoys photographing the Wisconsin countryside, and finds himself in unusual places--a marsh full of yellow-headed blackbirds on a country road near Jim Falls, or beside a Roman acqueduct or a Norman Castle in Sicily, or in the green paradise of the Pacific rainforest of Vancouver B.C., recording the beauty of these places for the references used in the paintings.

What's New

Recent vacations in Sicily have been the inspiration for a series of paintings inspired by this region. Presently she is also working on a book for beginning artists, which will include many of her techniques and feature pictures of paintings in various stages from first sketch to completion. The paintings will be posted on this site in the very near future.
